Apprenticeships

We're all about providing the very best opportunities for our young people

Want to apply for an apprenticeship?

Through our WG Futures programme, we work with a wide range of employer partners that provide students with unique insights into their world, offering them experiences to interact with professionals, learn about career paths, and directly experience workplaces. It’s truly inspiring.

However, here at WG, we also believe that our environments and culture offer the perfect place to start a new career, and so, we’re thrilled to offer a range of apprenticeship roles for our former students to consider.

From cooks to classroom assistants, maintenance, IT and admin roles, and more, this new programme will act as a springboard for skills development and career progression.

Spaces are limited, and the application process is the same as applying for an apprenticeship with any other organisation, but as a former student you will have our Futures Team on hand to support you along every step of the way.

Become a Teaching Assistant

As a teaching assistant, you will play a key part in ensuring our young people feel supported throughout their time in the classroom. Whether working 1:1 with individual students or leading smaller groups, you will positively impact their school experience and learning journey. Working alongside the teacher, you will be there to support them in delivering their lessons. As a Teaching Assistant at Witherslack Group, you’ll get all the support you need to succeed. Your colleagues will be the best at what they do, the school environments will be well-resourced, and we’ll be with you every step of the way, helping you build a rewarding teaching career.

Become a Maintenance Worker

Working in maintenance, you will be part of a skilled team who carry out maintenance and general repairs.  You’ll fix problems and keep school grounds neat and tidy. You’ll make sure the school meets Health & Safety regulations, undertake safety inspections, and keep up to date with any issues.  You'll be working with people who are experienced and knowledgable, and so will be supported to learn new skills and gain better understanding day in and day out.

Become an Assistant Cook

Being a cook in our schools means being part of something big. You’ll be working at the heart of the school, preparing and serving tasty, nutritious food to our young people, staff, and visitors.  You’ll be expected to follow food hygiene rules and keep health and safety in mind, but the key is to create varied menus that encourage our young people to try new foods. You’ll help plan meals, taking into account any specific dietary requirements, and be able to learn from experienced cooks so that your culinary skills and confidence continue to grow.

Become an IT Technician

Working in IT, you’ll support the systems we use in our offices, schools, and children’s homes. They include in-house computer systems; wireless infrastructure; switches; routers; desktops; and relevant peripherals. You’ll install all equipment and keep it well maintained, and when problems arise will be there to troubleshoot and diagnose.  It's a role where each day is different and where you are constantly learning new skills and gaining more understanding and experience.  You'll also be surrounded by a team of experts, who will always be on hand to assist, advise and encourage.

Become an Administrative Assistant

As an admin assistant/support role you will help to keep either the school or our central teams in head office running smoothly. From supporting the senior administrator to running the reception day to day. With your efficient, professional approach you’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate files and the production of reports. This role needs organisational skills and time management to ensure everything remains in order, but you'll be supported by a great team, who have all the knowledge and expertise to help you learn and gain confidence in the role.
